Alderson Broaddus men’s basketball coach Greg Zimmerman announced his retirement after an 18 year career with the Battlers. Zimmerman ends his incredible career with a 390-156 all-time record, a .714 career winning percentage.
“Greg is a hall of fame coach and will leave a lasting legacy on our men’s basketball program,” said Director of Athletics Carrie Bodkins. “This is a very sad day for AB Athletics as Greg has had an incredible impact on our men’s basketball program. He’s brought the Alderson Broaddus men’s basketball team prominence in two separate conferences and nationally during his stellar career. His impact on the campus, student-athletes, and community will be remembered long after his career, and we wish him well in this next chapter of his life. Greg will always be a Battler.”
Zimmerman’s illustrious career achievements include NCAA Division II Tournament appearances in a staggering nine consecutive seasons, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. He has won numerous conference titles including the G-MAC tournament title in 2014 and 2015, the WVIAC regular season title in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007, and the WVIAC tournament title in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2008.
Zimmerman has been selected as conference Coach of the Year four times (2006, 2007, 2013, 2014), and has developed five All-Americans, one WVIAC Player of the Year, two G-MAC players of the year, three WVIAC Neal Baisi Award winners, 21 First Team All-Conference selections and two WVIAC Freshman of the Year winners. He was also a 2014 Clarence “Big House” Gaines award finalist, which is awarded to the top NCAA Division II basketball coach in the country.
