Daily Dirt – 5/1/15

Here are a few things that I’ve heard…

  • The “hot” name at Florida Southern right now is Southern Connecticut head coach Mike Donnelly.  In his five seasons at SCSU, he is 97-49 (28-8 2014-15).  He also spent seven seasons as the head coach at Post University.  Florida Southern, who won the DII National Championship this past season,  is looking to replace Linc Darner who became the head coach at Wisconsin Green Bay back in April.
  • I have heard that Hargrave Military Academy assistant Steve Lepore is in the mix to join Dan Earl’s new staff at VMI.  The former Wake Forest guard has been at Hargrave for the past two seasons.
  • Maryland Graduate Assistant Coach Steve Asher has accepted the assistant coaching position at Lycoming College. Asher replaces former Florida State Graduate Assistant Sean Day. Asher joins Head Coach Guy Rancourt’s staff alongside fellow Big10 alum Tommy O’Connor who came to Lycoming from the University of Iowa last season.
  • Two separate sources have now told me that Northwest Kansas Tech head coach Jase Herl has departed and will become an assistant at South Plains (TX).  Herl, who just wrapped up his third season at Northwest Tech, led his squad to a 20-11 record, and was 56-39 overall.  He will replace Hank Plona who became the head coach at Indian Hills CC (IA).  I have also heard that current Northwest Tech assistant Jeremy Johnston is the leader to replace Herl.  He has also been an assistant at Dodge City CC, and an administrative assistant at Nevada.
