Delaware State University is seeking a dynamic candidate for its Head Men’s Basketball Coach. In the performance of their duties, the Head Coach shall be directly responsible to and under the supervision of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Head Coach shall conduct themselves at all times in a manner consistent with their position as an instructor of students. The Head Coach shall not breach or countenance the breach by any player or coach of any of the policies, rules and regulations of the University, rules and regulations of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, and rules and regulations of the USF’s NCAA Division I intercollegiate basketball program (as may be amended from time to time) during the term of employment at Delaware State University. The Coach shall assure the fair and responsible treatment of student athletes in relation to their health, welfare and discipline.

The Head Basketball Coach administers all facets of the DSU basketball program and its members: recruiting, training, conditioning, game performance, academic success, fiscal program management, campus and community conduct of the student athletes. Further, the Head Coach is expected to be a campus leader and outstanding University representative.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Direct assigned Assistant Coaches and Graduate Students in the overall planning and execution of the intercollegiate men’s basketball program..
• Recruit quality prospective student-athletes and ensure timely submission of their academic records for admissions.
• Monitor academic progress and status of team members, implementing action plans through appropriate staff when needed
• Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student athletes to support the image and reputation of the athletics program.
• Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NCAA and MEAC Conference regulations
• Coach team members individually and in groups, and demonstrate game techniques
• Develop and implement game strategy and position assignments
• Ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrate a positive experience environment for students to grow academically, athletically and socially
• Be competitive in Conference play and produce Conference Championships
• Oversee the strength and conditioning programs for student athletes.
• Manage all operation, fiscal, and administrative activities for the specific sports programs
• Promote the athletic program and specific sport through community events, camps, public speaking, fundraising, and mark marketing
• Ensure adherence to all Association, Conference, and University rules by athletes and support staff
