The Associate Athletic Director/Head Men’s Basketball Coach reports directly to the Director of Athletics & Recreation and is responsible for managing multiple department administrative operations. The Associate Athletic Director/Head Men’s Basketball Coach serves as a member of the senior management team within the Athletic Department.

Responsibilities: Associate Athletic Director

  • Responsible for collaborating with Athletics team members on all facets of sports administration for the Mount’s 14 varsity athletics programs
  • Primary sports supervisor for several programs – Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Wrestling, Baseball and Softball. This includes the supervision of two Assistant Athletic Directors in their auxiliary functions as AD for Operations & Facilities and AD for Recruiting
  • Lead in the creation, execution and metrics of success for five varsity program’s vision planning, strategy and ongoing assessment efforts, in collaboration with each Head Coach
  • Recruits, supervises, and evaluates head coaches. Assists head coaches in the hiring, supervising, and evaluating assistant and volunteer coaches
  • Monitors budget and NCAA compliance for assigned five varsity teams
  • Works with the head coaches to create and manage an environment of academic and competitive success
  • Conducts student athlete surveys and exit interviews to collect and assesses the program culture, mission, and goals
  • Defines fundraising initiatives for teams
  • Summarizes and reports to the Director of Athletics, Dean of Students, Provost, and President on all team responsibilities, activities and progress
  • Partners with the Associate Athletic Director/Head Women’s Basketball Coach to oversee the administration of Game Day Manager responsibilities shared between all Associate Athletic Directors and Assistant Athletic Directors
  • Partners with the Associate Athletic Director/Head Women’s Basketball Coach to oversee the Athletic Department student worker program. Responsible for hiring, punch-time approval, and game day event scheduling of student workers
  • Primary point of contact for Game Day Events of supervised sports and men’s basketball
  • Supervises intern or graduate assistant in completing all contracts for approved Athletic Events pertaining to supervised sports and Men’s Basketball
  • Proactively builds and maintains positive and collaborative working relationships with colleagues across campus to enhance the Athletic Department
  • Participates in professional education and peer networking opportunities; stays current on trends in the areas of responsibility

Responsibilities: Head Men’s Basketball Coach

  • Provides leadership and supervision in all aspects of the Men’s Basketball program including, recruitment, retention, academic support, practice preparation, game strategy, alumni development, fundraising, and community service
  • Expected to recruit student athletes who meet the college’s admissions requirements and the number of recruited student athletes will be reviewed annually by the Director of Athletics
  • Coordinates and outline a complete recruiting agenda to identify quality student athletes. This should include names of players, high school visits, coaching contacts, personal contacts, attendance at showcases and tournaments, telephone and email contacts and campus visits
  • Achieves a high level of competence in sport skill instruction, motivation, and conduct of practice sessions
  • Demonstrates a sincere interest in the social, emotional, and academic development of student athletes
  • Mandatory attendance at all admissions events and scheduled orientations
  • Ensures compliance with all College, Skyline Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
  • Collaborates with the Associate Director for Sports Information for the positive promotion of the Men’s Basketball program including individual and team statistics, media guides, reports to the Skyline Conference/NCAA, individual recognition and website updates
  • Ensures Department and College regulations are understood and complied with by student athletes and coaching staff
  • Works closely with the Department of Athletics and the Department of Institutional Advancement in any fundraising activities that will directly impact the Men’s Basketball program or the Department of Athletics in general
  • Represents the College at Skyline Conference and NCAA meetings pertaining to the Men’s Basketball program
  • Coordinates a minimum of two community outreach projects for the promotion of Mount athletics
  • Coordinates all game and practice schedules, as well as team travel activities
  • Contributes to the maintenance of good working relationships within the Athletic Department and with the rest of the College community
  • Develops an annual operating budget including the purchase of equipment/uniforms, travel arrangements, officiant payments, and team meals
  • Displays a commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and ethical conduct as per the NCAA Constitution
  • Achieves competitive results that demonstrate athletic and educational excellence
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Recreation

Qualifications and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Current CPR / AED certification
  • Minimum of two years’ experience coaching at the collegiate level
  • Progressive experience in athletics administration
  • Strong knowledge of NCAA rules, regulations and recruiting practices
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license with proven driving record in good standing
  • Availability on weekends and nights are essential
