Maryland assistant coach Bruce Shingler will not return, the university announced. A short two-sentence statement was released by the school:
“Men’s basketball assistant coach Bruce Shingler will not return to the program. He will be paid the remainder of his contract which expires on April 30, 2022.”
Shingler was suspended for 30 days back on January 13th for a “violation of his employment agreement.” The violation occurred when he was arrested and charged with solicitation this past October.
According to the Washington Post, charges against Shingler were dropped Friday. A Prince George’s County courthouse clerk confirmed charges were dropped, and Shingler’s charges no longer appear in Maryland’s court case search record.
Shingler joined the Terps staff back in June, after spending five seasons with Frank Martin at South Carolina. The DMV native has also worked at Towson, Morgan State, and Kansas State.
