Colgate University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Matt Langel has announced the addition of Camryn Crocker to his staff as an assistant coach.
Crocker joins the Raiders after serving the past three seasons as the director of player development at Stanford. During his time with the Cardinal, Crocker helped guide Stanford to 50 wins and 27 conference victories.
“Colgate has a mission and values that align with the best version of myself,” Crocker said. “I am both appreciative and elated at the opportunity to work with Coach Langel and the rest of the community in order to serve and maximize the experience of our student-athletes.”
Stanford won 16 games in 2021-22, including the program’s first win over an AP top-25 opponent since 2007 at USC on Jan. 27. During his tenure, Crocker guided nine players to All-Conference selections and two Scholar-Athlete of the Year honorees. He also played a role in mentoring two NBA Draft picks, Tyrell Terry and Ziaire Williams.
“I am ecstatic for Cam to join our Colgate Basketball Family,” Langel said. “His experiences as a student-athlete at Penn, a teacher-coach at Northfield Mount Hermon, and as director of player development at Stanford are distinguished and will serve him well to understand and contribute immediately to Colgate Basketball.
“Even more important than his experiences, however, is Coach Crocker’s quality of character and person. In that, no matter who I spoke to about Cam in this process, they made it clear that wherever he has been, he has positively impacted people’s lives.”
In 2021-22, Harrison Ingram was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year – Stanford’s first since 2000 – while Spencer Jones was named an All-Pac-12 conference forward. Sam Beskind earned Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the program’s third honoree in five seasons.
The 2020-21 campaign saw Stanford show its resilience and tenacity with a 14-13 overall record and 10 Pac-12 wins. The season included three wins over eventual Sweet 16 teams, two over Elite Eight programs, and a sweep of Arizona for the first time since 2008.
During Crocker’s first year on campus, Stanford tallied its first 20-win season since 2014-15, including the nation’s 16th-best scoring defense (KenPom No. 7).
Prior to his time at Stanford, Crocker spent three seasons at Northfield Mount Hermon in Gill, Massachusetts, where he served as an assistant basketball coach. Helping the team to program bests for wins in each of his three seasons (30 in 2017, 31 in 2018, 32 in 2019), Northfield Mount Hermon advanced to three straight New England AAA championships under his watch, and to two National Prep Championships, in 2017 and 2018. Crocker coached 21 Division I players and 14 All-NEPSAC AAA selections.
Concurrent with his time at NMH, Crocker worked with Paul Pierce’s The Truth Youth Basketball, coaching high school-aged athletes on the EYBL circuit, coached at the Pangos All-American Camp and served as an assistant coach in 2015-16 at Verbum Dei High School in Los Angeles.
Crocker was a standout guard and senior year captain at Penn, where he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in 2015 and his Master of Science in Education in 2018.
