Alfred State head basketball coach Jerry Jusianiec announced his resignation earlier this week after leading the Pioneers for the past twenty-three seasons. Jerry is excited about future professional opportunities and, though he will miss college coaching, looks forward to spending nights and weekends watching and supporting his children’s athletic and extracurricular activities. In those 23 years at the helm, Jusianiec led the Pioneer basketball program to 263 victories (70 NCAA Division III era), the most by any coach in program history. “My thanks go out to Alfred State College, my wife and kids for their continued support, my colleagues, and all the athletes this program has impacted for the past 23 years. Fond memories of my time at Alfred State will always stay with me and the future of the men’s basketball program is bright.”
He was named the ACAA Coach of the Year in 2017-18 after a 16-10 record, the programs highest win total since the 2008-09 season. The Pioneers were the #1 seed in the ACAA Tournament that year and had players named both ACAA Player of the Year and First Team All-ACAA. The following year in 2018-19, the Pioneers picked up 15 wins, advanced to the ACAA Tournament Finals and had a pair of players named first team All-ACAA.
“I want to thank Coach Jusianiec for his leadership and support of our men’s basketball program and student-athletes over the past 23 years” said Director of Athletics Jason Doviak. “He created a strong culture and was able to navigate the transition from Junior College competition to NCAA Division III well.”
Prior to coming to Alfred State, Jusianiec was an assistant coach at Division II LeMoyne College (Syracuse, NY), Division III schools Washington & Lee University (Lexington, VA), and SUNY Potsdam.
Coach Jusianiec played collegiately at Elmira College where he was a four-year starter and MVP his senior year.
Alfred State will begin a national search for its next head coach.
