Daily Dirt – 7/6/22

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I have heard that NJIT will add former AIC and Franklin Pierce head coach Art Luptowski as an assistant. Luptowski spent 25 years as a D2 head coach (1989-2014) and has most recently been working as a scout in the NBA. It also sounds like Danny Manuel will be bumped up to assistant coach after spending the past three seasons as the DBO, and Manuel’s replacement will be D2 Bloomsburg University assistant Michael Hamlin. An official announcement on these moves is expected shortly.

It sounds like Brian Fish is involved with an administrative spot at Oregon. The former head coach at Montana State (2014-19) had most recently served on Tom Crean’s staff at Georgia. Before becoming a head coach, Fish was an assistant under current Oregon head coach Dana Altman at both Creighton (2004-10) and Oregon (2010-14).

I have heard that Nick Covington will be hired as the Director of Basketball Operations at Jacksonville State. Covington, who had been on the SLCC staff for the past three seasons, played for Jacksonville State head coach Ray Harper at Oklahoma City U. This one should be made official soon.

It sounds like ETSU graduate assistant Aaron Jones will be promoted to DBO. He would replace Lucas Campbell, who became the Director of Recruiting at Tennessee last month. More on this one when it becomes official.

New URI head coach Archie Miller has added Andrew Chrabascz and Justin Mazzulla as graduate assistants. Chrabascz played at Butler (2013-17), and played professionally overseas following his graduation. Mazzulla played at Vermont (2020-22) and George Washington (2017-19). They are both Rhode Island natives.

It sounds like a good D1 JUCO in Texas has opened. More soon. *UPDATE: Here it is…JUCO DIRT.*

A D1 JUCO down South has opened for the second time this off-season. I’ll roll with that one in a bit.
