Romano rejoins Rhode Island College Basketball Staff

Rhode Island College has named Mike Romano as an assistant men’s basketball coach.

“I am very excited to be back at Rhode Island College,” Romano said. “There is a tremendous basketball tradition here and I am looking forward to helping the program get back to the top of the Little East.”

“Mike was here at Rhode Island College for three seasons and the teams were very successful,” RIC Head Coach Tom Glynn said. “I thought it was a no-brainer to add someone with his familiarity with both Rhode Island College and the Little East Conference to our staff.”

Romano brings with him a wealth of coaching experience. He most recently served as the varsity head coach and assistant prep team coach at Putnam Science Academy in 2020-21. Romano was the associate head coach at Alfred for three seasons from 2017-20 where the team won the 2019 Empire 8 Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Romano was an assistant coach at Hartwick in 2016-17 and the associate head coach at Bard in 2015-16.

He was an assistant at Rhode Island College from 2012-15. During his three-year stint on Head Coach Bob Walsh’s and Mike Byrnes’ staff, RIC went 66-21 overall and 34-8 in the Little East. The Anchormen won two Little East Tournament titles, one LEC Regular Season crown and made a pair of NCAA Championship appearances.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Western Connecticut in 2010 and his M.Ed. from Marist in 2014.

In addition to his coaching duties, Romano is a student-athlete advisor and compliance office at the Community College of Rhode Island.
