Radford head men’s basketball coach Darris Nichols who plead guilty to a DUI charge back in February, is headed back to court following a “positive reading on an ignition interlock device that tests for the presence of alcohol” according to The Roanoke TImes.
Nichols was originally arrested back on 2/21 after he blew a blood alcohol level of .25 after being arrested (three times the legal limit of .08). He subsequently plead guilty to the DUI charge, which included having his license suspended for 12 months, paying a $2,500 fine, and having an ignition interlock device installed in his vehicle. Nichols was also sentenced to 180 days in jail, with all but two of them suspended.
Following the arrest and guilty plea, Nichols was suspended by Radford, but returned a few weeks later on March 6th, and coached his team in the CBI.
According to the Roanoke Times report, Nichols had positive reading on his ignition device back on 5/3, and because of this, he “received a violation notice for allegedly failing to comply with the terms and conditions of his Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program. A revocation hearing has been scheduled for Nichols to show cause why his suspended jail sentence should not be imposed.” The hearing is schedule for June 1st.
There has been no statement made yet by Radford on this latest development.
