Cole Schreiner returns to Northland College as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach Northland College announced, on Wednesday. Schreiner was the men’s basketball assistant coach and head men’s and women’s golf coach during his three-year tenure at Northland starting in 2017.
“My family and I are very excited to be back at Northland. I’m very thankful for the administration to give me this opportunity to lead the men’s basketball program. There are some familiar faces in the program from when I was here as an assistant coach,” Schreiner said. “It’ll be great to work with them once again. I’m looking forward to continue building a program that Northland, our alumni, and the community can be very proud to support.”
Schreiner has been coaching for 10 years at the high school, junior college, and DIII level. Most recently, Schreiner was the coach for Gogebic Community College Women’s Basketball team. At Gogebic CC, he led the Samsons to a 14-7 record with an impressive 6-1 record at home. In his first season as a head coach, Schreiner started with a 10-game undefeated streak, including a 71-30 win in his first game.
His first year with LumberJacks, Northland ended the season 12-13 overall and 8-8 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. After his run with Northland College, he moved to the University of Wisconsin-Stout as the men’s basketball assistant coach. Schreiner has coached four All-Conference baseball players and two All-Conference golfers.
The Jacks start the basketball season Nov. 8, when they travel to Duluth, Minn., to take on the College of St. Scholastica. Northland College will make its home debut on Nov. 25, against Loras College.
