This one has been out there for a few weeks – it’s finally been made official. Former Butler head coach Lavall Jordan has been added to new head coach Chris Holtmann’s staff at DePaul. Here’s the release:
DePaul men’s basketball head coach Chris Holtmann has tabbed former Butler and Milwaukee head coach, Lavall Jordan, to the program’s coaching staff. Jordan will serve as the program’s General Manager, in addition to assistant coach duties.
“Lavall is a talented coach who has had success as an assistant and head coach,” said Holtmann. “He will assist us greatly and play an instrumental role in the NIL space and roster construction. Lavall has great experience in developing guards for the NBA and his skill teaching is outstanding which will play an important role as we develop our team.”
Jordan was most recently the head coach at Butler from 2017-22 where he notched a pair of 20-win seasons and two postseason appearances. The Bulldogs were slated to add a third to the resume, before the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the remainder of the season. In 2019-20, Jordan led the Bulldogs to a 22-9 record and top-25 ranking, reaching as high as No. 5 in the national polls.
Jordan made the return to his alma matter following one season as head coach at Milwaukee, where he guided the Panthers to the Horizon League Tournament Championship Game as a No. 10 seed. Prior to beginning his career as a head coach, Jordan spent six seasons as an assistant at Michigan under head coach John Beilein. While in Ann Arbor, Michigan notched five NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the 2013 Final Four and national title game followed by an Elite Eight appearance in 2014. Jordan was also an integral part in the staff that lead the Wolverines to a share of 2012 Big Ten regular-season title before winning the title outright in 2014, the programs first outright title in 28 years.
Following his professional playing career, Jordan embarked on his coaching career at Butler as coordinator of basketball operations (2003-04) and an assistant coach (2004-07). Jordan also spent three years as an assistant coach at Iowa under Todd Lickliter.
Jordan is a 2001 graduate of Butler, where he helped the Bulldogs win three conference tournament titles and four-consecutive postseason appearances. He was a two-time All-Midwestern Collegiate Conference performer and was the league’s tournament MVP in his senior season. At the time of his graduation, his 91 wins while a member of Butler’s team made him the winningest player in Butler history.
