Lane College has named Harold Rayford head coach of the Dragons men’s basketball program.
“Coach Rayford brings a wealth of knowledge on and off the court to our men’s basketball program,” said Derrick Burroughs, Director of Athletics.
“His leadership and coaching experience, along with his relationships throughout all levels of the basketball community, will complement the new chapter of Lane men’s basketball.”
Rayford is the founder of Tennessee Preparatory Academy located in Memphis, TN. Since 2015, he has helped over 260 student-athletes reach the collegiate level across the United States of America while leading the program to three Prep National Championships. Additionally, Rayford has guided several student-athletes to professional careers overseas and in the NBA.
Rayford’s coaching journey includes a successful season as an assistant coach at Norfolk State University, where he helped lead the program to a MEAC regular season championship after going 16-0 in league play.
His experience also includes serving as the head men’s basketball coach at SUNY Ulster County Community College, and with the Hudson Valley Hawks in the Minor Basketball League. As the lead assistant coach, he played a pivotal role in guiding the team to 13-2 record and a NPBL national championship.
Rayford also spent significant time working the summer camp circuit, including the New York Knicks Summer Camp, the Bill Bayno Summer Camp, and the NBA Hoop It Up tournament. He also completed internships with the New York Knicks and the Portland Trailblazers.
“I am honored and grateful to Derrick Burroughs and the Lane administration for this opportunity to lead the men’s basketball program,” expressed Rayford.
“I am eager to engage with our local community, alumni, players, and fellow coaches. Together, I am confident we can build a competitive program that embodies an exciting brand of basketball.”
A graduate of Virginia State University, Rayford is happily married with three children.
