I can confirm that NAIA Texas College will hire Walter Yates as their new head men’s basketball coach. He will replace Matt Cross who took over at Ottawa University (KS) back in late June.

Yates has most recently worked on the staff at Northwestern Oklahoma State, and has also been an assistant at Midwestern State and Prairie View A&M. The coaching veteran has also been the head coach at Elevation Prep (IN), and St. Pius X high school in Houston.

Yates will be taking over a TC program that set their all-time record for wins last season (22) and qualified for their first-ever trip to the NAIA National Tournament.

An official announcement is expected in the coming weeks.
