Point Loma Nazarene University Men’s Basketball Head Coach Justin Downer has announced the promotion of Assistant Coach Geoff McIntosh to Associate Head Coach, effective immediately.
“Coach McIntosh is the architect for player development in our program,” Downer said. “We care deeply about making our players better, and he leads from the front on that. His standard of excellence impacts our program daily.”
McIntosh serves as the offensive coordinator for Point Loma and plays a leading role in player development. He helps Sea Lions players get better in areas including but not limited to shooting, individual development, strength & conditioning, and nutrition.
In his first year on The Point in 2023-24, McIntosh helped PLNU win the PacWest Conference regular season title and reach the PacWest Tournament championship. Point Loma finished last season with a 21-9 overall (15-5 PacWest) record.
“I’m fortunate to be able to go to work with someone I call ‘family’ every day,” Downer said.
Prior to joining the PLNU staff in May 2023, McIntosh spent nine years with the Cal Baptist men’s basketball program.
After finishing his collegiate playing career with the Lancers, he went on to work as a graduate assistant before being promoted to the elevated roles of Assistant Coach and Director of Basketball Operations.
As an Assistant Coach at CBU, he was tasked with several responsibilities such as individual skill development, in-game strategy and recruiting.
Since coming to The Point, McIntosh has also been instrumental in creating the PLNU Men’s Basketball Tip-off Dinner, with the second annual event taking place next month on Oct. 18.
Point Loma is scheduled to begin its 2024-25 campaign on Oct. 28 with an exhibition at the University of Arizona. PLNU’s regular season will then commence on Nov. 2-3 at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic in Lakeland, Florida.
