OFFICIAL: Watts named Assistant Basketball Coach at D3 WestConn

Mentioned this move way back on 5/9 (DAILY DIRT). It’s now been made official…former D2 Mercy College head coach Chris Watts has joined the basketball staff at WestConn:

Chris Watts has been hired as an assistant coach at Western Connecticut State University. Watts, a former standout at Providence College, joins the Wolves following the last six seasons at Mercy College and an additional two at the University of Bridgeport prior to that. He was twice named the State of Connecticut Coach of the Year and his deep ties to the state’s AAU scene will be an immediate benefit for the program.

“Chris has been a friend for several years and I couldn’t be happier to have him on our staff”, said head coach Guy Rancourt, “As a player he was one of the best in the country, as a coach his experience will be invaluable, and our players will be the ones benefitting most as he starts working with them in the fall.”

The Wolves, coached by Guy Rancourt (6th Season), have reached the LEC Championship game the last three consecutive seasons. In the 2024-25 season the Wolves won 11 straight games, including an 81-68 overtime win against Rhode Island College in the semifinals before falling to Keene State 80-67 in the Championship.
