Howard College has announced Tyrone Brazelton Jr. as the newest addition to the Hawks men’s basketball coaching staff. A proven leader with a 14-year professional playing career and a growing reputation as an elite player developer, Coach Brazelton brings both experience and a passion for mentoring student-athletes.
Brazelton joins the Hawks after a successful tenure at Gulf Coast State College, where he played a key role in guiding the team to a Region Championship appearance. He was instrumental in the development of numerous standout players, including NJCAA Second Team All-American Christian Harmon, who went on to play at Arkansas State. During his time at Gulf Coast, Brazelton helped place seven players at the NCAA Division I level.
Prior to that, he served as an assistant coach at Link Academy, a nationally recognized high school program. There, he personally mentored and trained several future stars, including NBA Draft pick Tre Johnson, NCAA top point guard Labaron Philon (University of Alabama), and five-star prospect Jasper Johnson. His coaching journey also includes a stop at Rogers State University (NCAA Division II), where he helped develop Second Team All-MIAA selection Chris Whitaker.
A celebrated player in his own right, Brazelton’s career highlights include being named an NJCAA First Team All-American at Missouri State University–West Plains and earning Second Team All-Sun Belt honors at Western Kentucky University, where he was a key contributor on the Hilltoppers’ NCAA Sweet 16 run. Following college, he competed at the highest levels of professional basketball for 14 seasons across international leagues in Germany, Poland, Lithuania, China, France, and Turkey, among others.
Beyond basketball, Brazelton is a dedicated family man and father of two children, Arielle and Tyree. He holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Western Kentucky University.
“I am honored to join the Howard College Hawks and be a part of a program with such a rich history,” said Brazelton. “I look forward to building on the team’s success and helping our players achieve their academic and athletic goals, both on and off the court.”
