Matt Rotonda has resigned as the head men’s basketball coach at USCAA Penn State York, and has been replaced on an interim basis by Josh Czerski. Rotonda had been the head coach at the college since 2019, and was a part of the program as a player and assistant since 2019. During his time as the head coach, he went 131-38 including a 12-2 mark this season.
Penn State York is one of seven Penn State Commonwealth Campuses scheduled to close after the 2026-27 academic year.
Rotonda posted about his departure social media HERE. In the message spoke about his reasons for stepping down:
I have submitted my resignation to the University and I wish the team success for the rest of the season. I made this decision due to an unfortunate calamity of circumstances that have eliminated a viable way to move forward with this season, and I did not take it lightly. As the direction of the athletic department shifted from a philosophy that I align with to one that accepts lower standards and prefers lesser expectations, I reached the unfortunate realization that after 17 years, Penn State York is no longer a place for Matt Rotonda. As the impending campus closure looms next year, it is my hope that all students, campus faculty & staff can successfully transition to their next educational/professional phase.
Czerski, who led the team to a 101-89 win over Berkeley on Wednesday, is a former player at York, and also served as an assistant there. He had most recently been serving as a high school coach in Maryland.
