K-State releases official statement on Tang dismissal; Driscoll named Interim Head Coach

Following multiple reports yesterday, Kansas State has issued an official statement on the dismissal head men’s basketball coach Jerome Tang.

Kansas State Athletics Director Gene Taylor announced the school is parting ways with men’s basketball coach Jerome Tang. This decision is effective immediately.

Associate head coach Matthew Driscoll has been selected as the interim head coach.

“This was a decision that was made in the best interest of our university and men’s basketball program,” Taylor said. “Recent public comments and conduct, in addition to the program’s overall direction, have not aligned with K-State’s standards for supporting student-athletes and representing the university. We wish Coach Tang and his family all the best moving forward.”

A national search for K-State’s next basketball coach will begin immediately.

Tang’s most successful season came in 2022-23, when Kansas State went 26-10 and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament before falling to Florida Atlantic Owls men’s basketball. The Wildcats did not return to the NCAA Tournament during his tenure, finishing 19-15 the following season and 16-17 in 2024-25. The Wildcats are currently 10-15 (1-11 Big 12) and on a six game slide.

Driscoll joined Tang’s staff this past off-season, after a 16-year stint as the head coach at North Florida. He is the winningest coach in UNF (248) and Atlantic Sun Conference (144) history.
