NAIA NEWS: Hobbs will not return as Head Basketball Coach at Culver-Stockton

Citing the need to pursue new opportunities, Culver-Stockton College Head Basketball Coach Dorian Hobbs, Jr., announced Friday that he would not return for the 2026-27 school year.

Hobbs, a 2015 Culver-Stockton graduate and former assistant with the Wildcats, served as head coach of the program for three seasons, compiling a 24-61 overall record. The Wildcats ended the just completed season with a 5-23 overall record; finishing tied for 14th in the Heart of America Athletic Conference with a 2-18 conference mark.

Hobbs was hired March 29, 2023, to replace Aaron Hill as the men’s basketball leader. He directed the Wildcats to a 14-15 overall record in his first season as head coach, finishing sixth in the Heart with a 12-12 record. The Wildcats qualified for the Heart Tournament Championship, losing to Graceland University 77-64 in the quarterfinals. In his second year, C-SC finished 5-23 overall and 5-19 in the league to miss the postseason all together.

“We wish Dorian the best as he pursues the next step in his professional life,” said Culver-Stockton Athletic Director Pat Atwell. “He is a quality person who represented Culver-Stockton very well as a student, assistant coach and head coach.”

During his tenure at Culver-Stockton, Hobbs coached four all-conference players, including first team selection Connor Davis in 2024-25, and had 11 players earn Daktronics/NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors

For four seasons Hobbs served as an assistant coach for the Wildcats under head coaches Jack Schrader and Aaron Hill, helping coach multiple all-conference players, a conference freshman of the year, and a two-time All-America player. He also coached players who have gone on to play professionally overseas.

During his playing days as a Wildcat, Hobbs was a four-year member of the Wildcat basketball program and a member of two national tournament teams. The 2012-13 team advanced to the final eight of the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Men’s National Tournament and set a school record for wins with 26, while the 2013-14 team advanced to the round of 16 and ended the campaign with a 24-8 overall mark.

Atwell said Culver-Stockton will be naming a successor as efficiently as possible.
