The 2026-2027 men’s basketball sideline will look different next year as Rochester Christian University has announced that current men’s basketball assistant coach, Quin Rice, has been tabbed to take over for Dr. Klint Pleasant following his 15-year stint at the helm.
“Blessed doesn’t even begin to describe this. I am thankful to Clayton Bissett and Coach Klint Pleasant for their collective trust in me to take on this position.” Rice continued by saying, “There is a legacy here that is rooted in over 50 years of tradition laid out by both Coach Klint and Garth Pleasant, and we will forever honor the foundation that they and the hundreds of former players have laid for us. This program has always been about the guys who put on the jerseys and the impact that can be made through them. That will continue to be at the core of who RCU basketball is and what it’s about. I hope the 2025-26 season goes on awhile longer for us, and I am honored to have been entrusted with something that means so much to so many people following the completion of this season.”
Rice has been a part of the program since coming to Rochester Christian in April of 2019 and has been a key piece of the day-to-day operations for the Warriors. Since Rice has joined the staff, the Warriors have amassed a 131-66 record, including the 2020-2021 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championship title.
“I am thrilled to announce Coach Quin Rice as our new men’s head basketball coach. Having watched him on and off the court for the last seven years, there is no doubt in my mind that he is the right man to lead this program. I am excited to watch him continue the legacy of the men’s basketball program,” said RCU Athletic Director Clayton Bissett.
Rice has served as the recruiting coordinator for the Warriors, while also being instrumental in aiding the development of two NAIA All-Americans as well as three WHAC Newcomers of the Year, one WHAC Defensive Player of the Year, and 12 WHAC All-Conference selections.
Rice came to RCU following a stint as a Graduate Assistant at Central Michigan University, where he earned his master’s in Sports Administration. While a part of the CMU staff, the Chippewas recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1965-1967. Rice was responsible for advanced scouting, as well as aiding in the day-to-day operations of the program.
In his career, all three head coaches for whom Coach Rice has worked under have been named “National Coach of the Year” at their respective levels: Klint Pleasant (USCAA, Rochester Christian University, 2016), Keno Davis (AP NCAA Division I, Drake, 2008), and Andy Bronkema (NCAA Division II, Ferris State, 2018).
Rice received his undergraduate degree from Ferris State University in 2017, where he also served as a Student Assistant and Basketball Operations Coordinator for the Bulldogs. While working with the team, the Bulldogs won back-to-back Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament championships, a GLIAC regular season championship, and earned a Sweet Sixteen berth.
“Quin is the man for the job,” said Dr. Klint Pleasant. “He possesses all the things that RCU basketball has stood for, and he has embraced the culture through and through. His integrity, his work ethic, and his commitment to the players’ well-being are things that have earned him the position. I have enjoyed watching him grow over the years and look forward to watching him lead the program. I plan to support him personally in any way he needs and to continue to help the entire program with any special needs that might arise. The RCU basketball family means so much to so many people, and Quin has been sensitive to that and has endeared himself to both the alumni and the community. I am so happy for him and thrilled that he is getting this opportunity.”
