Butler men’s basketball head coach Ronald Nored has hired Matt Frederick as the program’s Chief of Staff.

“I’ve known Matt for a long time and his skillset is ideal for this position within our program,” said Nored, who was hired at Butler last month. “The college basketball industry has never been more complex and the need for talented, strategic and relationship-based problem-solvers has never been greater. Matt will play a key role in navigating our path to success. I’m excited for Matt and his family to join our Butler Family.”

The newly-created role of Chief of Staff serves as a primary advisor to Nored on operational decisions, program goals and strategic planning. Frederick will be the program’s liaison to units within the athletics department as well as the campus community. His focus on the program’s off-court activities will include a large role in operations as well as assisting with oversight of staff.

Prior to working in the private sector the last few years, Frederick was part of seven championship basketball seasons around the Belmont and Gardner-Webb men’s and women’s basketball programs, serving as the Director of Athletic Performance.

Through Frederick’s workout plans, nutritional knowledge and dedication to student-athlete physical development, Belmont excelled on the court, on the field, on the track and on the course. The Bruins enjoyed multiple Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships across many of Belmont’s 17 sponsored varsity sports, in addition to both team and individual NCAA Tournament and NCAA Championship appearances, with Frederick’s training. In its final year in the OVC in 2021-22, Belmont captured its first OVC Commissioner’s Cup, which symbolizes overall athletic excellence in conference-sponsored championships.

While at Gardner-Webb from 2016-19, Frederick oversaw 22 sports and 450 student-athletes in athletic performance roles.

Prior to Gardner-Webb, Frederick spent two years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Mississippi College, working specifically with eight sports including men’s and women’s basketball.

The Birmingham, Ala., native spent one year as a volunteer assistant with Auburn University strength and conditioning.

Frederick played baseball for two years at Bevill State Community College, before competing his final two years at Samford University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Samford in 2013 and a master’s degree in exercise physiology from Mississippi College in 2016.
