Malone University has announced the hiring of a new men’s basketball coach. Tae Gibbs will be the 13th leader of the Malone University men’s basketball program.
“It’s an honor to be named head coach at Malone University,” Gibbs stated. “I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity and blessed to lead this program. I would like to thank Director of Athletics Tanya Hockman, President Greg Miller, and the rest of the search committee for trusting my leadership with this role. Our vision is to build a Christ-centered culture rooted in servant leadership, relentless effort, and competitive joy. We’re going to develop young men who represent this university the right way—on the court, in the classroom, and in their faith. My family and I are excited to be back in the state of Ohio and to continue building on the strong history and foundation that has been laid here at Malone University.”
Gibbs comes to Malone after most recently serving at Southern Illinois University as an assistant coach. His role with the Salukis focused on recruiting, scouting and skill development within the program. Southern Illinois was ranked inside the top-30 in all of NCAA Division I in defensive efficiency and was the top defensive team in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Prior to his time at Southern Illinois, Gibbs was the assistant coach and director of player development at Wright State University. He was a part of the 2022 staff that won the Horizon League Championship and won a game in the NCAA Tournament. Along with his continued recruiting and skill development, Gibbs assisted on a top-30 offense with the Raiders.
At the NCAA Division II level, Gibbs was associate head coach at Trevecca Nazarene University from 2018-21 where he assisted in faith and leadership development within the program. He also had a prior stop at Wheaton College where he served as an assistant coach. Gibbs earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education-Language Arts at Indiana University and Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership at Trevecca Nazarene.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Coach Gibbs as the next leader of our men’s basketball program,” Director of Athletics Tanya Hockman noted. “After an extensive search, it became clear that Coach Gibbs is a person of exceptional character who possesses the deep missional alignment essential to the Pioneer athletic tradition. Coach Gibbs brings a proven track record of recruiting success, a vital asset as we continue to attract student-athletes who excel both on the court and in the classroom. More importantly, he consistently models the core values of integrity and servant leadership that define the Malone experience.”
The Pioneers are coming off a 2025-26 season where they finished 14-14 overall. Malone is looking ahead to next season, where all the action can be seen live on FloCollege.
