A respected coach who has worked with some of the best international players, Elliott De Wit has been hired as assistant coach at Abilene Christian as announced by head coach Brette Tanner on Tuesday.

De Wit has spent eight seasons as a college coach, most recently spending two seasons as an assistant at Utah Tech. His coaching history also includes working in the video room and as a player development coach with the NBA’s Detroit Pistons from 2020-23.

In 2025-26, Utah Tech was one of the most improved teams in the country, going from seven wins the previous year to 19 last season. The Trailblazers reached the semifinals of the WAC Tournament.

De Wit has spent five years coaching in Texas as he got his first position in the U.S. as an assistant at Frank Phillips College in Borger from 2015-17. He then moved to Texas Tech where he served for three seasons as a graduate assistant and video coordinator for head coach Chris Beard, working with scouting reports, game plans and player development. Texas Tech reached the NCAA Tournament each year, and played in the 2019 national championship game against Virginia.

De Wit reunited with Beard for the 2023-24 campaign as director of video operations at Ole Miss. Beard and Tanner coached together at Fort Scott Community College (Kan.) early in their careers.

In France, De Wit was the head coach of Entente le Chesnay Versailles (2013-15), Poissy Basket Association (2012-13) and was an assistant for Paris Levallois (2010-12). He graduated high school from CFA Omnisport Paris in France and played at the regional and national level in France.

De Wit has worked closely with some of the best French and international prospects, including Victor Wembanyama, the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Jonathan Kuminga, the No. 7 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Theo Maledon, the No. 34 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and Sekou Doumbouya, the No. 15 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

De Wit earned his Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Sport Psychology from Texas Tech in 2019, after receiving a Bachelor Degree in General Studies from Texas Tech in 2018.
