Iona University head men’s basketball coach Dan Geriot has announced the hiring of Landry Kosmalski as an assistant coach for the Gaels.
Kosmalski joins the Maroon & Gold following a decorated coaching career that includes 12 seasons as the head coach at Swarthmore College and most recently a stint as associate head coach at Campbell University during the 2025-26 season.
“We are thrilled to welcome Landry and his family to Iona,” said Geriot. “He is a proven winner at every level of college basketball and a respected mind in the game. His ability to develop players, build culture, and sustain success over a long period of time speaks for itself. Landry’s experience and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to elevate our program.”
In his lone season at Campbell, Kosmalski helped guide the Camels to 16 victories and a semifinal appearance in the Coastal Athletic Association Championship. The postseason run was highlighted by a quarterfinal upset of top-seeded UNC Wilmington.
Prior to Campbell, Kosmalski established Swarthmore as one of the premier programs in Division III basketball. A two-time National Coach of the Year, he compiled a 241-102 record and a .703 winning percentage across 12 seasons. Over his final eight years, Swarthmore ranked fifth nationally in winning percentage across all NCAA divisions, winning more than 82 percent of its games during that span.
Kosmalski led the Garnet to seven consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2017 through 2024, highlighted by an Elite Eight run and two Final Four appearances. His teams also captured four Centennial Conference championships and consistently ranked among the nation’s best on both ends of the floor.
The 2022-23 campaign marked one of the program’s high points, as Swarthmore advanced to the Final Four and finished the season ranked third nationally. Kosmalski earned the prestigious Glenn Robinson Award as Division III National Coach of the Year that season, in addition to D3hoops.com District Coach of the Year honors.
During the 2019-20 season, Swarthmore opened 26-0 and finished 28-1, holding the No. 1 ranking in the nation from start to finish. Kosmalski was named NABC National Coach of the Year, Regional Coach of the Year, and Centennial Conference Coach of the Year following the historic campaign.
Under his leadership, Swarthmore produced seven All-America selections and multiple conference award winners, while also excelling academically. His players consistently earned national and regional recognition, including Academic All-America honors.
Kosmalski’s coaching career also includes multiple stints at his alma mater, Davidson College, where he served as an assistant coach and helped lead the Wildcats to two NCAA Tournament appearances and Southern Conference championships.
A standout player at Davidson from 1996-2000, Kosmalski was a four-year starter and earned All-Southern Conference First Team honors twice. He remains among the program’s all-time leaders in rebounding, scoring, and steals, and was inducted into the Davidson Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
Following his playing career, Kosmalski gained professional experience overseas in Sweden and France and later held coaching roles internationally before returning to the collegiate ranks.
A native of Bedford, Texas, Kosmalski and his wife, Lauren, have three children: Lincoln, Bexley, and Larkin.
