JUCO NEWS: Moses named Assistant Basketball Coach at Northwest Florida

Northwest Florida Men’s Basketball head coach Steve DeMeo has announced the addition of Scott Moses to the Raider coaching staff ahead of the 2026-27 basketball season.

“We’re excited to welcome Scott Moses to the Raider family” said head coach Steve DeMeo. “Scott brings a diverse coaching background with a proven track record in recruiting and player development at every level of the game, from prep basketball to the NJCAA and NCAA ranks. His experience, work ethic, and ability to connect with student-athletes will make him a tremendous addition to our staff and our program.”

Moses arrives in Niceville following a season at Southern Miss, where he served as an assistant coach under Jay Ladner. The Golden Eagles posted a 19-16 record and advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament after winning three consecutive games in postseason play.

During his time in Hattiesburg, Moses played a key role in recruiting and developing First Team All-Sun Belt selection and Howell Trophy finalist Tylik Weeks. Weeks averaged 19.7 points per game and ranked second in the conference with 20.7 points per contest during league play.

Moses and Weeks previously spent two seasons together at Southwest Mississippi Community College, where Weeks became the program’s all-time leading scorer after averaging 17.2 and 20.1 points per game. During Moses’ tenure with the Bears, Southwest Miss. compiled a 34-26 record and earned back-to-back appearances in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.

Prior to his time at Southwest Mississippi, Moses served as head coach of the Scotland Campus Post Graduate Team in Scotland, Pennsylvania. The nationally recognized program featured more than 60 student-athletes across six teams ranging from ninth grade through post-graduate competition. During his tenure, Moses helped place 40 student-athletes into collegiate basketball programs, including seven at the NCAA Division I level.

Moses began his collegiate coaching career at Adelphi University, an NCAA Division II institution competing in the Northeast-10 Conference. Over three seasons with the Panthers, he helped guide the program to a 54-31 overall record while handling recruiting, player development, scouting and game preparation responsibilities. He also earned his master’s degree from Adelphi in 2021.

Before joining Adelphi, Moses spent a season at Woodstock Academy as an assistant coach for the nationally ranked Gold Team. The program finished 35-5 and earned a berth in the National Prep School Championship Tournament while finishing the season ranked No. 3 nationally.

Moses also served as an assistant coach at Springfield Commonwealth Academy from 2015-17, working with the school’s National Prep, Regional Prep and middle school programs. During that span, he helped place 17 student-athletes at NCAA Division I, II and III institutions. The National Prep team finished ranked fifth in the nation and qualified for the National Prep School Championship Tournament.

A native of Hauppauge, New York, Moses graduated from Hauppauge High School before attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. While at UMass, he served as a manager for the Minutemen men’s basketball program and founded the Pioneer Valley Tip-Off, a high school basketball showcase that continues to operate today while raising funds for student organizations. He also coached at Smith Vocational High School in Northampton, Massachusetts, serving as both the junior varsity head coach and assistant varsity coach.

In addition to his collegiate and prep coaching experience, Moses has worked at numerous elite basketball camps throughout the country, including Five-Star Basketball Camps, Hoop Group Elite Camps, Monmouth Basketball Camp, Virginia Basketball Camp, Rutgers Basketball Camp, Hofstra Basketball Camp and Adelphi Basketball Camp.

Moses brings more than a decade of coaching, recruiting and player development experience to Northwest Florida as the Raiders continue preparations for the 2026-27 campaign.
