Late Night Dirt – 8/20/14

Another late night for the DirtKing. Here are some things that have heard while waiting for our guys to return to campus…

• Bucknell assistant Charles Lee has departed and accepted a spot on the Atlanta Hawks staff. Lee is a Bucknell alum who played professionally overseas from 2006-2010. He was also the Patriot League player of the year in 2006.

• Former Northern Iowa star Ali Farokhmanesh has joined Tim Miles staff at Nebraska as a graduate assistant. Farokhmanesh is most remembered for his performance in the 2010 NCAA tournament, including the bomb that he hit to put away Kansas in the round of 32 (I can still remember the bar that I was at when he hit that shot).

• I can confirm that Lake Land College (IL) will hire Highland CC (IL) head coach Nathan Courtney. He will replace Cedric Brown who became an assistant at Mineral Area College earlier this summer. Courtney had been at Highland for the past two seasons (51-15), and was an assistant at Indian Hills before that. We had Courtney listed in our top three back on 8/8: http://www.hoopdirt.com/blog/3d838af0/lake-land-college-il-d…

• It sounds like Murray State graduate manager Bryan Sherrer will be named as an assistant at Three Rivers Community College (MO). Scherrer had been on Steve Prohm’s staff for the past three seasons. In 2008, he was the NJCAA Region-16 Player of the Year at TRCC, and led the Raiders to the NJCAA Final Four and was named to the NJCAA All-America Team. He was also a team captain at South Alabama (2008-10) and ranked eighth in the nation in free throw percentage at 90.1 as a senior in 2010.

• I have heard that Maryville College’s Raul Placeres has been promoted to assistant head coach. The Maryville alum will be entering his fourth season on Randy Lamberts staff.
