Things are starting to heat up at Marist. I’ve got a big-time source on this one. It sounds like Marist AD Tim Murray wants someone who has experience as a DI head coach. Here are some of the guys who are involved…

Head Coaches who are now “free agents”:

• Bill Carmody – Former head coach Northwestern and Princeton. He is a New Jersey native who played collegiately at Union (NY). 284-235 in 17 seasons as a head coach (including 92-25 at Princeton).

• Steve Donahue – Former head coach Boston College and Cornell. Has compiled a 200-214 record in 14 seasons as a head coach. Led Cornell to 29 wins and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2010. Sounds like his buy-out at BC was pretty good, could keep him off the market though.

Current head coaches:

• Brett Reed –Head coach Lehigh. Is 129-91 in his seven seasons at Lehigh. Joined the Lehigh staff in 2002 as an assistant. Also worked at UNC-Greensboro and High Point.

• John Dunne – Head coach St. Peter’s. Has been the head coach at St. Peter’s since 2006. A New York native who played at Ithaca (NY). Also served as an assistant at Siena, Seton Hall, and Adelphi.

• Mike Maker – Head coach Williams College. Has a 147-32 (.821) record in six seasons at Williams. Has led his squad to the NCAA DIII Final Four in 2010, 2011, and 2014. Has also been an assistant at West Virginia and Creighton.

• Matt Langel – Head coach Colgate. Has been the head coach at Colgate since 2011. Has served as an assistant at Temple and Penn (his alma mater).

Former head coaches who are now assistants:

• Al Skinner – Associate head Coach Bryant College. Former head coach Boston College and Rhode Island. A New York native who has a 385-291 record in his 22 seasons as a head coach. Joined the Bryant staff last summer. Was an assistant at Marist from 1982-1984. Played in the NBA from 1974-1980.

• Billy Taylor – Director of Basketball Operations Iowa. Former head coach Ball State and Lehigh. Spent 11 years as a DI head coach (165-168) before joining the Iowa staff last spring. Has also worked at UNC-Greensboro and Notre Dame.

Current assistant coaches (No write ups. It’s like when you travel with the team – head coaches get the suite, assistant coaches get to share a room with a cot):

• Dan Earl – Assistant coach Navy

• David Grace – Assistant coach UCLA

• Mark Prosser – Associate head coach Winthrop

• Dan McHale – Assistant coach Minnesota
