After leading the Marist College men’s basketball program for one season, Jeff Bower has resigned his position as head coach. Bower will become the General Manager of the Detroit Pistons.

“I have a lot of respect for Jeff and the job he did in his time at Marist,” Marist Director of Athletics Tim Murray said. “He laid the foundation for the program moving forward and I feel that this is a great opportunity for our next head coach. I wish Jeff the best of luck as he leaves Marist for a very specific and compelling NBA opportunity.”

Bower was hired as the 10th head men’s basketball coach in Marist College history on April 10, 2013. In his first year as head coach, Bower guided the Red Foxes to a 12-19 overall record and 9-11 in the MAAC regular-season. It was the Red Foxes’ highest total of conference victories in six years. The Red Foxes lost to Niagara in the first round of the 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Basketball Championships, 78-76. Marist red-shirt freshman guard Khallid Hart (Newark, Del.) won MAAC Rookie of the Year honors and junior swingman Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) was named Second Team All-MAAC.

Prior to Marist, Bower enjoyed a lengthy stint in the NBA as a general manager, head coach, director of player personnel, assistant general manager, assistant coach, director of scouting and advance scout with the New Orleans Hornets.

A national search for Bower’s successor will begin immediately.
