Daily Dirt – 5/12/14

I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day weekend. Here’s some “dirt” to start the week…

• I have started to hear some names surrounding the vacancy created at West Alabama when Mark Downey departed to join Chris Jans staff at Bowling Green. The three names making the rounds are: former Southeast Louisiana head coach Jim Yarbrough, Arkansas-Monticello head coach Allen Sharpe, and current West Alabama assistant coach Michael Floyd. It sounds like this search may wrap up soon.

• Two separate sources have now told me that University of Jamestown (ND) head coach Justin Wieck will accept a spot on the staff at Minnesota-Moorehead. Wieck had spent three seasons with the Jimmies where he compiled a 49-33 record (17-12 this past season). From 2006-10, Wieck was the video coordinator at Iowa – during that same stretch, Minnesota-Moorehead coach Chad Walthall was an assistant there. It sounds like Wieck will assume the title of associate head coach – announcement is expected this week.

• It sounds like John Brown University (AR) head coach Clark Sheehy is the choice at Southwest Baptist (MO). Sheehy has been the head coach at JBU for the past seven seasons, and was the head coach at Fresno Pacific before that. I have heard that this will not be made official until early next week.
