Daily Dirt – 5/8/14

Here’s today’s “dirt”…

• Word on the street is that former Auburn assistant Tony Matlock is in the mix to replace Al Pinkins on Andy Kennedy’s staff at Ole Miss. Matlock had been on Tony Barbee’s staff for the last eight seasons – 4 at UTEP, 4 at Auburn. Last month he was hired as an assistant at Lamar. I expect an announcement here soon.

•More Ole Miss… I have heard that Ole Miss GA Tyler Benson will become the video coordinator at Memphis. Benson played collegiately at St. Bonaventure.

• It sounds like the search to replace Jim Baker at Catawba College (NC) is winding down. I heard last week that they were down to two – today I heard that a decision has been made. I have heard from a few people that Newberry (SC) associate head coach Rob Perron is in the mix here. He has been the head coach at St. Andrew’s (NC), and also served as the DBO at Charlotte.

• Speaking of searches…Midwestern State head coach Nelson Haggerty has said publically that he will not be a candidate to replace Kim Anderson at Central Missouri. His name had been hot at CMU – he was a former assistant to Anderson at CMU, and has had a ton of success at MSU. I’ve got some pretty good names for CMU – will publish the list soon.
