Daily Dirt – 3/25/14

On the run most of the day today – here are some quick hitters to start the day. Will try to blog from the phone if other things pop up (which they inevitably will)….

• Former UConn head coach Jim Calhoun, and Celtics assistant Walter McCarty have both expressed interest in the vacant Boston College job, but I’m still hearing that it’s Tommy Ammaker’s if he wants it. I have heard that there are some heavy hitters at BC ponying up some dough to try lure the Harvard coach across the river.

• Shaka Smart to Marquette? Shaka Smart to Wake? Not sure where he’ll end up, but sounds like the year he may finally bolt from VCU…

• Multiple sources have told me that Jimmy Voight is out as the head coach at Ranger College after just one season. Sounds like Coastal Bend head coach Larry Mendez could be in the mix here again.

• Embry-Riddle will be starting men’s basketball on their Arizona campus starting in 2015-16. I have heard that former Yavapai College head coach Eric Fundalewicz will be the first-ever coach there. After the team at YC was dissolved, Fundalewicz became a women’s assistant at Northern Arizona. ERAU will be an NAIA DII school and compete in the Cal Pac conference.

• Ryan Ostendorf has been named head coach at Mesabi Range CC (MN). Ostendorf spent this past season as an assistant at the school and will replace retiring head coach Tom Stackpool.

• Bobby Godinez, who took over at Victor Valley College (CA) this past year has had the interim tag removed from his title. He took over the program three weeks before the season started, and led the squad to a 15-12 record (an improvement from the 0-24 record form 2102-13).
