Daily Dirt – 7/8/13

Finally back from a little vacation on the coast with the DirtQueen and the Little DirtBags. Just wanted to pass along a few things that I’ve heard while gearing up to hit the road this week…

• I have heard from a good source that Northwest Florida head coach Steve Forbes is involved with a spot on the staff at Wichita State. The former Tennessee assistant is 62-6 in his two seasons at NWF. It sounds like an announcement could come as early as today about the position.

• I can confirm that Cincinnati staffer Chris Shumate will become an assistant at Southern Mississippi. Shumate has worked for Mick Cronin at UC since 2007 – he also played for Cronin at Murray State. He will replace Wade O’Connor who resigned last month for personal reasons.

• I have heard from two separate sources that Wofford assistant Gus Hauser has departed for a similar position at Louisiana Lafayette. Hauser had been at Wofford for the past two seasons, and has also worked at Coastal Carolina, Louisiana Monroe, New Mexico State, and Louisville.

• Word on the street is that Bergen Community College (NJ) has promoted Carlos Quinteros to head coach – he replaces Matt Odalen who departed to concentrate on his career in the private sector. Quinteros who served as an assistant the past two years at Bergan was named interim head coach in the spring.
