Daily Dirt – 12/20/11

As we get closer to Santa’s visit, here are a few things that I’ve heard….

DIII Wheelock College is beginning phone interviews next week for its vacant head coach position. John Preziosa resigned last week (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/eff8a44b/breaking-preziosa-out-at-d…) and AD Diana Cutaia has been coaching the team since. There is now word as to whether the new coach will be brought on in January, or in the off-season.

St. Joe’s head coach Phil Martelli is taking some heat from an article on SI.com from former player Todd O’Brien. It’s a pretty interesting read: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/basketball/ncaa/12/19/…

Our thoughts are with New Hampshire Associate Head Coach Ken Dempsey as he recovers from prostate cancer surgery. Here is Dempsey’s account of how he detected the cancer, and his fight since. A great reminder for all men out there to get regular check-ups (http://collegechalktalk.com/coachesDiary/new_hampshire/2011-…). We wish Coach Dempsey a speedy recovery.

UTC’s Chris Early was suspended this past weekend for his “anti-coach” tweets (http://timesfreepress.com/news/2011/dec/17/utcs-early-suspen…). Pretty nasty stuff. I understand social media is a big thing with players (all of our guys are on Twitter and Facebook), but they definitely need to be educated about what can happen when you hit the “tweet” button. Players have to know that they will be held accountable for the things that they post.
