Our “Bucknell Dirt” from earlier tonight has now been confirmed – Nathan Davis is the new head coach at Bucknell.  Randolph-Macon just released the folowing:

Randolph-Macon head basketball coach Nathan Davis has resigned to accept the head coaching position at Bucknell University.

Davis guided the Yellow Jackets through the most successful six-year stretch in program history. He posted a record of 141-39 (.783) in six seasons at R-MC, including 70-11 (.864) at home. The Yellow Jackets won three ODAC Championships and appeared in six straight NCAA Tournaments for the first time in school history. R-MC reached the Final Four in Davis’ first season in 2010. The Yellow Jackets advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in 2013 and the Elite Eight in 2015.

This past season was one of the best for Davis at his alma mater. The Yellow Jackets finished with a 28-3 record, tying the program mark for victories in a season. R-MC won 25 consecutive games, a program record. The Yellow Jackets went 16-0 in ODAC play and became the first team in conference history to go undefeated during the regular season and win the conference tournament. R-MC was ranked No. 1 in the nation, earned a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament and reached the Elite Eight after a pair of home tourney victories. The Yellow Jackets had six sellouts in their final eight home contests. Davis was named ODAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season and was named Coach of the Year in the South District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

There are five former Randolph-Macon coaches who have been Division I head coaches and three are current: Davis at Bucknell, Mike Rhoades at Rice and Gregg Marshall at Wichita State. Former R-MC assistant Shawn Finney was previously the head coach at Tulane and former Yellow Jacket assistant Jeff Reynolds was the head coach at Air Force.

A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.

The official statement from Bucknell is expected tomorrow.
