University of Nevada head men’s basketball coach Eric Musselman has selected Jermaine Kimbrough to be the fourth member of his new staff. Kimbrough joins Doug Stewart, Jay Morris and Anthony Ruta on the Wolf Pack staff.
“We are very excited to hire Jermaine as he gives us a national recruiting presence,” Musselman said. “He has done a great job helping develop pro players such as Norris Cole. He is an excellent complement to Doug Stewart and Jay Morris.”
“I’m truly grateful and honored for this golden opportunity that coach Musselman has given me and my family,” Kimbrough said. “The University of Nevada has a great basketball tradition and a great basketball coach and person in coach Musselman. I look forward to working with the players as well as the Wolf Pack coaching staff.”
An outstanding young coach he was invited and will attend the University of Minnesota’s Villa 7 Consortium. The consortium is presented in a partnership with Nike and will be held in Indianapolis in May. It’s a unique career development opportunity for the truly elite assistant coaches across the country.
Kimbrough comes to Nevada after working the past nine years at Cleveland State University. In his time at CSU he helped guide the Vikings to a pair of Horizon League Championships, one NCAA Tournament, four NIT trips and a CollegeInsider.com tournament appearance.
In addition to working with the guards at CSU he was the Vikings recruiting coordinator. He oversaw the basketball camps and monitored academic progress.
He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Howard College from 2001-03. The team posted a 23-game win streak and were ranked as high as second before ending the year 15th.
In his first stint at CSU he was director of basketball operations during the 2003-04 season then moved on to Massachusetts as the Minutemen’s director of operations for one season. He spent the 2005-06 season at IPFW as the Mastodons’ assistant coach and recruiting coordinator before returning to CSU for the next nine seasons.
While at Massachusetts he helped the Minutemen knock off #2 Connecticut, #20 George Washington and #23 Florida State. He worked with two future professional players Rashun Freeman and Stephan Lasma while at Massachusetts.
He coached Dewitt Scott at IPFW along with Norris Cole, J’nate Bullock and Carlos English during his time at CSU. All four went on to play professional basketball. Cole is currently with the New Orleans Pelicans.
As a prep basketball player at Shaker Heights (Ohio) High School he earned all-league honors four times and all-city honors three years as the team averaged 19 wins per season.
After averaging 26 points per game his senior season he earned second-team all-state honors. He attended Virginia Tech and twice was selected as the ESPN Player of the Game versus Wake Forest and Virginia.
In 2001 he received a bachelor’s of arts degree from Virginia Tech with minors in psychology and black studies. He also holds an associate of arts degree in physical education from St. Catherine College.
Jermaine his wife Tameka along with their children will reside in Reno.
