Ivan Lewis of Prospect Park, a 2004 graduate of Felician College, has been named head coach of the Golden Falcon men’s basketball team, Felician athletics director Ben DiNallo Jr. announced today.
Lewis becomes the seventh coach in program history, succeeding Dave DeFerrari. He is the first alumnus of Felician to hold the position.
“I commend Coach DeFerrari on the many contributions he made to Felician College and to our department,” DiNallo said. “We are excited about Coach Lewis assuming the leadership of our men’s basketball program, and we look forward to the start of the 2015-16 season.”
Lewis returned to his alma mater in the fall of 2008 and joined Del G. Harrison’s Golden Falcon staff. He was retained by DeFerrari the following season, and was promoted to associate head coach in September 2012. Prior to coming back to Felician, he was the lead assistant at Elmwood Park Memorial High School for three years.
Lewis graduated cum laude from Felician with a BA in marketing/management. He was a tri-captain of the 2003-04 Golden Falcon squad that won the CACC regular season title and the ECAC Division II championship. Before attending Felician, he earned an AA in business administration at Tompkins Cortland Community College (TCCC), where he is still the all-time leading scorer. In 2014 he was inducted into the TCCC Athletics Hall of Fame.
Lewis is a native of Monticello, N.Y. He received a master’s degree in sports management from California (Pa.) University in 2010.
