Bob Sheldon Notches 400th Career Victory at Tufts

????????????????????????????????????

The Tufts University Men’s Basketball team gave head coach Bob Sheldon the 400th victory of his Jumbo coaching career on Thursday night with a 99-78 win at Newbury College in non-league action.

Sheldon becomes the 41st active coach in the NCAA Division III to reach 400 victories. In his 28th season with the team (1988-2016), he now has a 400-293 overall record. He is the all-time leader in coaching victories at Tufts and is the 10th active coach in New England to reach the milestone.

Sheldon has guided the Jumbos to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a berth into the “Sweet 16.” The 2005-06 team finished with a school record for wins with a 23-7 record, reached the NESCAC Championship final and advanced to the NCAA Tournament “Sweet Sixteen.” Sheldon coached that team to a key victory against host Cortland State in the NCAA second round, as well as an exciting overtime loss against Amherst which ultimately ended their NCAA tournament run. Sheldon was voted D3Hoops.com’s Northeast Region Coach of the Year that season.

He has also guided two other Tufts teams to NCAA appearances including the 1994-1995 Jumbos who won 20 games to earn the program’s first NCAA appearance. The 1996-1997 team won its final seven games to earn an NCAA berth.
