- Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski missed last night’s game against Georgia Tech due to an illness. The last time that Krzyzewski missed a game was in 1995, when he took a leave of absence following back surgery. Duke released the following statement; “After the team meal last evening, he was feeling under the weather and stayed back in Durham, where he was evaluated at Duke University Hospital and directed by his doctors to remain home. Coach Krzyzewski is expected to return to the team soon.” Associate head coach Jeff Capel coaches the team in his absence. Here’s a pretty good video of Coach K talking about the importance of assistant coaches: Coach K Discusses Impact of Assistant Coaches.
- Marshall assistant Chris Duhon has been reinstated following his suspension. Back in November, the former Duke standout was arrested for DUI and subsequently suspended by the university (Marshall Assistant Chris Duhon Suspended). Marshall released the following statement yesterday; “Marshall men’s basketball assistant coach Chris Duhon has been reinstated to the program following a two-month suspension for a violation of department rules and policies. No further comment will be forthcoming.”
- Congratulations to NC A&T interim head coach Jay Joyner for earning his first collegiate win – a 63-62 nail biter over Savannah State. Joyner replaced Cy Alexander who resigned late last week. Not only did he win his first game, but the victory snapped a nine-game skid by the Aggies, and it was NC A&T’s first win of 2016.
