The search to replace Ray McCallum at Detroit is moving along, with candidates on campus over the next few days. The names that I have heard are:
- Bacari Alexander – Assistant Coach Michigan. A Detroit alum who has been on John Beilein’s staff at Michigan for the past six seasons. Spent six seasons (2001-07) as an assistant at Detroit, and has also worked at Ohio and Western Michigan.
- Jermaine Jackson – Assistant Coach Detroit. Last season was his first as an assistant at UDM. A former standout, and Hall of Famer for the Titans, he spent five years in the NBA. Most believe that if he is not hired as the head coach, he will remain with the program as an assistant.
- Dwayne Stephens – Associate Head Coach Michigan State. Has spent the past thirteen seasons working for Tom Izzo at Michigan State. The former MSU player also worked for Tom Crean at Marquette for four seasons.
- Vince Taylor – Former Assistant Coach Texas Tech. Had worked for Tubby Smith at Texas Tech for the past three seasons. Has not officially joined him yet at Memphis. Also worked for Smith at Minnesota and has been a high major assistant at Pitt, Louisville, and Wyoming.
It sounds like this search could be wrapped up by Friday. More as I hear it.
