According to a Jon Rothstein report, Detroit Mercy intends to hire Mark Montgomery as their new head basketball coach. Montgomery was in his second stint on Tom Izzo’s staff at Michigan State, having worked for the Spartans from 2001-11 and from 2021 to now. In between, he served as the head coach at Northern Illinois for ten seasons (124-170), and spent some time during the 2020-21 season as an assistant at Detroit. Montgomery will replace Mike Davis, who went 1-31 last year, and 60-119 over his six seasons at UDM. More on this move once it becomes official.
