Daily Dirt – 4/11/18

Here is some mid-week “Dirt”…

  • Some names that I’ve heard at UNC Asheville are Indiana State assistant Bret Carey (former associate head coach at UNCA, also played there), UNC Greensboro associate head coach Mike Roberts, and USC Aiken head coach Mark Vanderslice (a UNCA alum and former staffer). At least two high major guys being mentioned as well. More names when I hear them.

  • I’ve heard former Detroit Piston Lindsey Hunter’s name at Detroit Mercy. Hunter is a former first round pick by the Pistons who played in Detroit from 1993-2000. He also spent time as an assistant in the league. I have also heard former Butler and Iowa head coach Todd Lickliter mentioned here as well. Most recently he has been working as a scout for the Boston Celtics.

  • Speaking of NBA guys…I have heard former NBA player and coach Jim Cleamons mentioned at Chicago State. Cleamons was a first round pick by the Lakers back in 1971. He spent time as the Dallas Mavericks head coach (1996-97), and also spent seven seasons on Phil Jackson’s bench with the Chicago Bulls.

  • It sounds like Georgia operations coordinator Matt Bucklin will remain on the staff under new head coach Tom Crean. Bucklin, a former walk-on at UGA (and nephew of Michigan State’s Tom Izzo), has been on the Bulldogs staff since he graduated back in 2012.

  • On campus interviews are underway at NYU. Three current DIII head coaches and an Ivy League assistant will be in this week.

  • I have heard that DIII Pacific University (OR) has made their choice. Sounds like it’s a guy from their league. More on this when I can…

  • I have heard that DIII Curry College will remain as a part-time job. Tough gig in a league of all full-time coaches. The job posting will be published shortly.

  • ICYMI: “Dirt” from earlier today…JUCO Andrew College has made their choice HERE and DIII Gettysburg has hired (I mentioned it on Monday – finally given the green light today) HERE.
