BYU-Hawaii Athletics has announced the departure of Ken Wagner, BYU-Hawaii’s athletic director and head men’s basketball coach. Wagner moves on to take a position helping both the Taiwanese men’s and women’s national basketball teams.

Wagner has overseen the athletic program for 21 seasons in both the NAIA and NCAA Division II. This season Wagner earned his 500th victory at BYU-Hawaii with a victory over Azusa Pacific. In 26 years at the helm of Seasider men’s basketball, he held a record of 501-241 and a combined record of 690-314 in his 36 years of coaching.

Before his time at BYU-Hawaii, Wagner began his head coaching career at Lehi High School in Lehi, Utah, in 1979 where he guided his teams to two state championships in five years. He then coached at Dixie State Junior College (now Dixie State University) where he compiled a record of 126-36 (.778), ranking in the NJCAA top 20 in four of his five years as head coach.

Wagner began his career at BYU-Hawaii in the 1990-91 season and guided the Seasiders to the NAIA Final Four with a 28-7 in his second season. He helped BYU-Hawaii transition to the NCAA Division II in 1998-99 and reached the NCAA Division II Final Four in 2011. Wagner has coached 19 players who went on to play professionally across the globe.
