Former NBA player Doug West has resigned as the head coach at Penn State Altoona after just one season. West, a standout at Villanova and twelve year NBA veteran, will become the head coach at Altoona Area High School where he starred in the early 1980’s. In addition to his one season at PSU Altoona (7-15), he has also been an assistant coach at Villanova and with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the D-League.
During his twelve year career, West played for the Timberwolves (1989-1998) and the Grizzlies (1998-2001). The 38th pick in the 1989 draft, he averaged 9.6 points per game during his time in the league.
An official announcement is expected tomorrow.
