Nichols College men’s basketball head coach Tom Glynn has announced the addition of Angel Ortiz to his staff as a Director of Basketball Operations.
Ortiz was a three-year member of the men’s basketball program at Lasell College (2012-15). He averaged 10.2 ppg for his career – including a career-high 11.2 ppg as a senior – and helped the Lasers win 19 games and advance to the championship game of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament in 2013-14.
“I’m very excited about adding Angel Ortiz to our staff as our Director of Basketball Operations as he begins his college coaching career,” said Glynn. “In this role, Angel will be involved in all facets of our program.”
Ortiz received his Bachelors of Science in Sport Management in 2015 and is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Science Sport Management at Lasell. Ortiz has coached the varsity boys basketball team at East Lyme H.S. since 2012, providing one-on-one workouts and implementing drills and workouts.
A native of Niantic, Conn., Ortiz spent six months shadowing the Director of Athletics at East Lyme (2014-15). There, his duties ranged from setting up sports schedules to game and facilities management. Ortiz has also coached youth basketball at the Newton Boys and Girls Club.
Ortiz joins a Nichols program coming off a program-record 25 wins and its first-ever ECAC Northeast Championship in 2015-16.
