St. John Fisher College has announced the hiring of Michael Grosodonia II as the new assistant men’s basketball coach.
“I am excited to be a part of St. John Fisher College and coach basketball at the college level beside a great coach in Rob Kornaker”, Grosodonia said in a statement.
He comes to Fisher after being the head varsity boys basketball coach at the Aquinas Institute in Rochester, New York for the last 10 years.
Under his leadership at Aquinas, he compiled a 194-38 record, a NYSPHSAA State title in 2016 (the first in program history), six Section Five titles, four trips to the State Final Four, while being named a two-time All-Greater Rochester Coach of the Year. In 2015, he was also named Class AA Coach of the Year.
In his last two seasons at Aquinas, the team compiled 47 wins and back-to-back trips to the NYSPHSAA final four. Aquinas, who is known nationally for football, currently ranking 14th after the 2015 season, has been marked as one of the top basketball programs in New York State since Grosodonia took the role as the program’s head coach.
“To add an assistant of the caliber of Mike Grosodonia is a big win for the College and our basketball program. Not only does Mike have a tremendous work ethic, but he has a great basketball mind,” head coach Rob Kornaker said. “I was able to see Mike up close and personal for three years when my son was a part of his program at Aquinas and saw how he ran a high school program very closely to how we do things at the college level. He is definitely one the most successful coaches in Section V the last 10 years. He is going to add a lot to our program and I am very excited to work with him.”
His knowledge of the game proved to be key for the Li’l Irish as they posted a 27-1 home record that dated back to the start of the 2013-14 season. His only loss came from East High School in Buffalo during that three-year home span.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education K-12 from the College of Brockport and then went on to earn his Master of Education in Special Education from Roberts Wesleyan College.
