Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Basketball Announces Coaching Staff For The 2016-17 Campaign

Lenoir-Rhyne University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Everick Sullivan has completed his staff for the 2016-17 season with the addition of John Lattimore and Tommy Matthews and the elevation of Blake Simmons.

Lattimore, Simmons and Matthews will all serve as the assistant coaches for the Bears this year.

Lattimore comes to Lenoir-Rhyne after serving three years (2013-16) as Associate Head Coach for Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, N.C. Lattimore led the Sea Devils to a 67-31 mark during those three seasons to along with two berths in the NJCAA National Tournament and a pair of league regular season and tournament titles.

Lattimore, a graduate of Appalachian State University, also served two seasons as a graduate assistant for UNC Wilmington (2011-13) and coached at Crest High School in Shelby, N.C.

Simmons was elevated to assistant coach after spending one season as a graduate assistant for the Bears in 2015-16. With Simmons on staff, Lenoir-Rhyne put together a 21-10 campaign and earned its first-ever berth in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship.

Simmons graduated from UNC Charlotte in 2015 and was a four-year head student assistant for the 49ers men’s basketball staff.

Matthews was a four-year letterwinner for Eastern Kentucky University (2012-16) where the Colonels put together an 85-48 mark during that span and earned the berth in the NCAA Division I Tournament in 2014.

Matthews, who earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Eastern Kentucky, is a native of Clinton, Maryland.
