Keith Berard, who was a Houston Baptist assistant men’s basketball coach from 2007-12, has rejoined the Huskies in the same role, HBU head coach Ron Cottrell announced.

“It is my pleasure to announce that Keith Berard is returning to our staff,” Cottrell said. “Keith is a familiar face to many of our fans and folks all over our campus and it is great to have him back at HBU. His knowledge of our program and the expectations we have, both on and off the court, will bring an immediate comfort level to his transition back to collegiate coaching. Additionally, Keith brings a wealth of experience to our staff and he will be counted on to be an integral part of every aspect of our program.”

Berard spent the last three years coaching at Episcopal High School in Houston, after one year as an assistant coach at Weber State in Ogden, Utah. During his five seasons at HBU, he assisted in on-the-floor coach, recruiting, academics and served as the camp coordinator for the Ron Cottrell Husky Basketball Camps. Prior to his first stint with the Huskies, Berard served as an assistant coach at Texas Southern, where he helped the Tigers to the Southwestern Athletic Conference title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2003.

A Houston native, who played at St. Thomas High School, Berard spent three seasons as assistant coach at College of Eastern Utah and one at Howard College. After playing two seasons at Weatherford College for former Husky Mark Osina, he finished his career with two seasons at Southern Utah from 1993-95, helping lead the Thunderbirds to the American West Conference championship in 1995 and earning first-team all-conference and Team MVP honors. Berard ranks among SUU all-time top 10 in 3-point percentage, assists and steals.

Berard earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Southern Utah in 1996, then played professionally in Switzerland in 1997.
