We’ve been hinting at this one for a while…
As of this afternoon, Gary Waters is no longer the basketball coach at Cleveland State. The parting of ways comes as no surprise, as Water’s Vikings struggled to a 9-22 record this past season, and new AD Mike Thomas started at Cleveland State this week. The biggest surprise is that fellow Horizon League head coach Jerry Slocum (Youngstown State) beat him to the punch today, when he announced his retirement.
Waters has been the head coach at CSU since 2006 where he went 194-177. He has also served as the head coach at Rutgers (2001-06), and Kent State (1996-2001).
An official announcement is expected shortly.
