John Redman Named Assistant Basketball Coach at the University of Mobile

University of Mobile’s athletic department announces the hiring of John Redman, as the assistant men’s basketball coach.

Redman, a Spanish Fort, Ala. native, graduated from Spring Hill College in 2013, where he spent one year as a basketball player and the other three years as a student assistant.

“I’m excited to join coach [Joe] Niland and University of Mobile,” said Redman. “I look forward to contributing to a program that has already had so much success under the leadership of coach Niland.”

Redman joins the Mobile coaching staff after spending the past year as the head men’s basketball coach at St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile. Prior to coaching at St. Paul’s, Redman was an assistant coach for Dalton State College, where he helped lead the Roadrunners to a three-season record of 77-18, including winning the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship in 2015.

“With the loss of veteran assistant Shaddrick Jenkins, we will very fortunate that Coach Redman was interested in coming back to the college game,” said University of Mobile head basketball coach Joe Niland. “His experience as an assistant coach at this level is something we are not always able to secure and he has the knowledge of our conference and proven success.”

Redman replaces Shaddrick Jenkins, who spent the last 10 seasons with Mobile, as he currently accepted a job with City of Mobile Parks and Recreation department.
